MKFM news reporter, presenter and local legend Sam Carmichael has some events for you this summer, including the MK International Festival…
Well, here we are!
Restrictions have been eased, most of us have had the vaccine, and countless events have been given the green light.
It has been a tough ride for us all but here’s to the future and helping our much-loved city bounce back.
Theatre-goers will be pleased to hear that the leading entertainment venue, MK Theatre, will be reopening its doors at the end of June.
Jimmy Carr is to grace us with his presence on 5th July – good luck if you’re sat in the front row! And for those that fancy a singalong, The Magic of Motown is on 18th July featuring the greatest hits of Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and The Jackson 5. I heard it through the grapevine that I’ll be there.
The inspiring and artistic IF: Milton Keynes International Festival will be making a comeback this summer; it is set to be bigger and better than ever.
Initially planned to take place in 2020, the festival will now be held across MK from 10th to 30th July.
There will be different installations, events, virtual concerts, and much more.
I can’t wait to see the Museum of the Moon at the Tree Cathedral. It’s a seven-metre sculpture that features detailed NASA moon imagery, has BAFTA-nominated music to accompany it, as well as the voice of David Attenborough. Find out more at ifmiltonkeynes.org.
Lastly, if you fancy collecting some antiques and handmade gems then you should check out the hugely popular MK Handmade & Vintage pop-up market in the centre:mk. It’ll be there for one weekend only, from 5th to 6th June and is located in Middleton Hall.
The open space is transformed into a treasure trove of unique independent stalls, ranging from restored jukeboxes to dressmakers, artisan gins to original art. It’s definitely worth checking out!
*All events were planned to go ahead at time of publication
