Local news reporter and radio presenter Sam Carmichael explains how you can still celebrate Christmas, Covid-style…
Writing an events column during a pandemic is… difficult.
And there is no doubt that festive celebrations will be different this year.
It may be a case of testing your tech skills by using Zoom to call the in-laws, or texting your friend asking for turkey basting tips.
Regardless of how Christmas and the new year pans out, it’s important to stay positive with the hope that I’ll be bringing you more events in 2021.
One exciting event that is set to go ahead this year, however, is the panto at Milton Keynes Theatre.
Oh no it’s not, you say? It is, and will be one of the few socially-distanced pantomimes in the country.
Sleeping Beauty will be the first production shown at our much-loved arts venue in nine months.
There will also be countless Christmas Grottos across the city, all Covid-compliant, including one of the UK’s biggest at the centre:mk.
Peter Rabbit is the theme of this year, and actors will be bringing the characters to life. One for the kids!
If you’re looking for more low-key festivities, then why not venture out of town and head to Waddesdon Manor for the afternoon?
The gardens turn into a festive extravaganza full of light trails, a market, and quirky displays. It’s a safe way to get out of the house and into the festive spirit.
Whatever you get up to, have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year… I’ll see you in 2021! Let’s hope next year is far kinder to us.
All events are planned to go ahead at the time of printing.
