Ginger Mum Column: Eat out to help out this summer

Our resident lifestyle blogger Amanda, aka Ginger Mum, talks about the restaurant scheme and the staggering rise in domestic violence.

Hey everyone, welcome to summer in Milton Keynes!

Hope you are all enjoying the phased return of normality and like me, appreciating all the little luxuries we are now allowed to indulge in once more.

The ‘eat out to help out’ scheme kicks off August with a bang and helps out our purses this summer of schools out.

Big names like Wagamama, Nando’s, Prezzo are all in as well as many of our much-loved independents around
these parts.

Let’s get out there and support our independents who have been so amazing during lockdown with their
outstanding takeaway services, now that we can actually go indoors and enjoy their hospitality once again.

For places I can’t wait to visit, I’m thinking Ole Tapas Bar in Wolverton, Nonna’s in Woburn Sands, The Greedy Italian in Fenny Stratford and of course, the insta hit, Greek Affaire in picturesque Stony Stratford.

Isn’t it great to see the shops open again too?

Most of us saw the queues on the opening day of Primark in centre:mk and Bicester Village at extreme ends of the spectrum – it just shows you can’t keep a good shopper down!

I’ve ventured as far as centre:mk. For me, it’s easy wear, little care all the way for this month and this pretty River Island dress fits the bill perfectly.

Now one of the most upsetting things to come out of the past few months for me has been the sad statistic of the surge in domestic violence and the upsurge in views on related help websites.

1.9 million women aged 16-59 will have experienced abuse this year. That’s staggering. 67.4% of survivors going through this have reported it getting worse during the recent pandemic.

We feature a brave and honest first person account over on http://www.luxe3c.com which highlights just how real
this issue is and the heartwarming story of surviving and thriving.

Please do check it out. If you yourself need help, guidance or simply a supportive ear, MKACT are there for you on 0344 375 4307.
