In January I always have clients come to me and say “right James, I am going to lose weight, get fit, change my job, spend more time with my family, start a new business.”
You get the concept. People often do not attain these goals because they are looking to achieve the goal at the end of the road, instead of breaking them down into mini milestones.
For example, when you get to the end of the first week in January, you realise you don’t have two hours a day to go to the gym or the time to prepare all your healthy meals for the week.
Therefore, you need to look at your current commitments and how to adapt your lifestyle to make time for your individual aspirations and goals.
Think about the logistics of how this process will work, who you have around you to keep you on track and, most importantly, the motivation and psychological reasoning as to why you feel you need to change.
Now, wherever you are, I just want you to take a second to stop, put your phone down, laptop down and focus on the next few steps. Picture the goal you have set yourself (if you don’t have one, take a moment to think of one).
Now consider what achieving this goal will do for your life. Now I want you to imagine you have achieved your goal, write down how it feels and what emotions you have. Now write down everything that might stop you achieving your goal.
With 90% of my clients, they realise that most of the obstacles they have written down they have control of, or can work on and change. Therefore, it is now your job to TAKE ACTION.
Consider what your obstacles are, how can you make time in your week, who do you have to support you and most importantly, remember what this goal will do for your life.
Consider how you are going to manage those inner demons and obstacles and you are halfway to making a great start to the year!
