intu Milton Keynes and Make Believe find young future stars

Hopeful children from across the region competed in singing and dancing auditions at intu Milton Keynes on Saturday 12 October, as part of a talent competition put on in partnership with Make Believe Group.

Make Believe is the UK’s leading children’s international performance arts school and it brought its talent-finding platform, One Dream, to Milton Keynes for the weekend.

Thirty-three local children were selected as finalists from hundreds of hopefuls across the junior (6-11) and senior categories (12+) – see the full list of names below. They are all aiming to win a part of the £1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to join Make Believe, plus some will perform at the Milton Keynes Christmas Lights Switch On on Saturday 16 November.

Shelley Peppard, general manager of intu Milton Keynes, said: “It was wonderful to host this event! It created a brilliant atmosphere and made so many shoppers smile. By putting on compelling events like this, we add a little something extra to the shopping experience, and help our retailers to flourish too, not to mention how much the participants loved it. The audition standard was so high! Congratulations to all those who got through, we were very impressed. It’s a brilliant opportunity that could help someone from MK become a star!”

The finalists will now go to the finals at Stratford Circus Theatre on Sunday 17 November, where one person from each category will walk away with the crown, as well as £500 cash each and a Make Believe scholarship. Winners of previous competitions have gone on to star in West End shows including On Your Feet and School of Rock.

Joel Kern, Make Believe Founder and Managing Director, judged the auditions alongside leading talent agent Eilidh McCole. He said: “It was great working in partnership with the fantastic team at intu Milton Keynes to host a competition for children and young people in the local area. When I launched Make Believe in 2004, I wanted to make theatre and performing arts more accessible to young people from all communities and this competition opens those doors.”

One Dream helps to discover talent in children and provide them with an outlet to use energy and hone interpersonal and life skills, such as confidence and communication. By teaming up with shopping centres, hundreds of children are able to register to audition at each One Dream event.
