As summer draws to a close and the festive season looms ahead, it’s time to start planning the office Christmas meal.
It’s hard to come up with something different every year, but Calcutta Brasserie in Stony Stratford has a novel suggestion.
The Indian restaurant is offering a spicy twist on the traditional annual feast. Set in a spacious 17th Century chapel with a spectacular vaulted ceiling adorned with fresco paintings, it’s one of the most Christmassy rooms to dine in, and large enough to accommodate large parties.
The restaurant’s head chef, Saj has created a choice of special four-course seasonal menus with a platter of dishes to share served in the middle of the table, which can all be refilled if necessary.
The feast features festive favourites with a tandoori twist like Baby Sprouts Pakora – fritters of baby spinach and brussel sprouts with tangy spices.
There’s traditional roast potatoes flavoured with fresh cumin seeds and fresh seasonal veg tossed in the karahi pan.
Main courses include some of the dishes which have won multiple awards for the restaurant including King Prawn Jalfrezi, a slow cooked lamb dish, Kosha Mangso and a velvety smooth Chicken Tikka Lababdaar, a recipe developed at India’s famous Taj hotel in Mumbai which overlooks the Arabian sea.
The feast finishes with traditional Christmas pud or Indian ice cream. It’s a sumptuous menu and, of course, it will be served with crackers, decorations and plenty of Christmas cheer.
Restaurant manager Ali says there’s been a good reaction to the idea: “Our loyal customers have asked us to give them an antidote to bland, boring Christmas catering and our chef has crafted something very exciting.
“We’ve taken the best bits of the traditional dinner and added some of our award winning magic to create a menu that will sparkle like the lights on our tree.”
