Food Events Column: Gin School is in for the summer

Hazel Roberts takes us through the numerous food events such as street food and festivals happening in MK and surrounding areas this August…

With summer in full swing and the schools out, it is time to kick back, relax and enjoy some leisurely street food, food festivals and markets.

With world cuisine served up on your doorstep and not-on-the-high-street products at artisan markets, there is no need to jet off to exotic climes to experience great food and drink.

This month’s street food events include Eat Street MK at York House, Stony Stratford from 5-10pm on 2nd August. The Sunday Street Food Session at Middleton Pavilion is from 12pm on 11th August and Newport Pagnell Food Truck Friday is from 5pm on 16th August.

The MK Biergarten has two Street Food Fridays in August, with The Little Oven of Joy on 9th August and AVegetativeState on 23rd August. Food will be served between 6-9pm and MK Biergarten will be open until 11pm on both occasions.

On 13th August, Wharf Distillery are hosting a Gin School at The Drink Shed. If you have ever wanted to make your own gin and learn about distilling, then this is the course for you.

It is a 3-hour masterclass where you will learn about methods, botanicals and flavour blends and at the end you will be able to take away your own bespoke bottle of gin with a personalised label.

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend (24-26th August) the live sports venue MK11 are holding their Sausage & Cider Festival.

Running from 12pm each day, there will be plenty of hot food themed around sausages, a huge range of craft ciders from across the UK and live music into the evenings.

Also over the August Bank Holiday Weekend, Frosts, Woburn Sands are hosting their Foodie Festival. Back for its 10th year, it promises to be bigger and better than ever.

There will be an artisan market showcasing the best of local produce, tasty street food and drink and kids’ cooking activities.

On Monday 26th August the Stony Stratford Town Fayre returns to the Wolverton Road Recreation Ground for more typically British summer celebrations.

With hot food, cold refreshments, stalls to browse, kids’ activities and entertainment, there will be plenty to keep everyone happy.
