WOS Wrestling commentator and MK fashionista SoCal Val talks about how she’s ditched her skirts and dresses for a shorts suit…
If you’re a student of the fashion game you probably face the same sartorial dilemmas as I do.
I read countless fashion magazines, follow all the appropriate bloggers on social media and keep a close eye on trends in stores and on the street. But sometimes I get stuck in a fashion rut!
Especially when the seasons change. With warmer temperatures “occasion dressing” can be a bit difficult.
It’s too hot for a classic tuxedo and quite frankly even I am sick of seeing myself in skirts and dresses. I really crave something fresh and unexpected in my wardrobe!
Enter the shorts suit. Summer’s newest and most exciting, coordinating trend.
More casual than a pants suit but with the same sort of ease, it features a matching top and bottom without the severe “corporate” connotation of a traditional suit.
Even a skirt suit can appear too dowdy and ladylike at times. A suit with cute little shorts on the bottom conveys an effortless attitude!
Most styles, as the River Island version I’m wearing here, are less structured in their shape. Relaxed, slouched and certainly a lot more comfortable.
The fabrics are more fluid to flow with the movement of your body. No more stiff wool here!
The best suits are made in lightweight fabrics to keep you feeling cool while looking cool. I chose a tropical print suit in vibrant hues… but plain colours work well too! Just don’t go basic black, please! I beg you!
It’s summer after all. Have fun with colours and prints as if you’re on holiday. Try a refreshing palette of mint greens, corals and white.
Bright primary colours are beautiful as well this time of year and are a surefire way to get you noticed.
The best thing about a shorts suit is the accessorising. May I recommend a huge statement earring to accompany this look?
Wear with an updo to let them stand out as a conversation piece. For shoe options, high heels or flats work well here too depending on your destination.
Plus! Your bag can be as versatile as your mood! I love pairing a shorts suit with a small, side slung handbag for day and a delicate clutch for the evening.
So that fashionistas, is the long and SHORT of it. This is a trend worth trying and I’m confident you’ll look and feel fabulous in it.
Rock this trend on your next day out in the beautiful sunshine! You deserve it.
