WOS Wrestling presenter and MK fashionista SoCal Val talks about taking fashion risks and not letting anyone else’s opinion get you down
Check your watch, fellow fashionistas. It’s time! Time to break out of your comfort zone.
Time to reinvent your look. Time to FINALLY gain the sort of confidence that says “I love my outfit, even if you don’t!”. For me, this confidence came over time.
Working in the wrestling industry, where spandex is the height of couture and “dressing up” is wearing jeans and a nice tank top, it hasn’t always been easy for me to convey my sartorial message to the masses.
I have always strived to make people see the importance of taking fashion risks… no matter who may or may not agree. It has been said that “women don’t dress for men, they dress for other women.”
I can guarantee you that a very small minded person said that because what MANY people fail to realise is that we dress for neither. We dress for ourselves. Which is, in my opinion, the epitome of feminism.
For example! Take these vintage leather trousers I’m rocking today. They are of a voluminous shape but have an elasticated waistband to maintain a feminine silhouette by cinching you snugly in the middle.
I wore them with a kicky beret, mirrored heart shaped sunnies, a collared shirt and edgy (faux) leather heels. I for one feel very powerful in these trousers.
However, when a few of my male friends called them “MC Hammer pants” I had to silently remind myself that not everyone has style.
Not everyone takes as much effort to put together an ensemble. And to be quite frank, not everyone really cares!
But for some of us, putting together an outfit is the highlight of our day! I firmly believe that with each fashion risk comes great reward.
In this case, the reward is feeling awesome in a piece of clothing that I truly love, without apologies!
It is imperative that you follow suit and wear whatever makes you feel impervious to haters. Throw trends out the window and never let anyone’s opinion dampen your mood. Especially with something as frivolously fun as fashion!
Stay strong in your opinions my well dressed friends! Dress for you and no one else. Always.
