Once again, a group of daring amateur cyclists from across Milton Keynes and beyond will be hopping back on the saddle for MKRUFC’s annual summer fundraiser – the Ring of Fire bike ride.
This year’s route sees 55 riders (double that of last year!) and 10 support crew travel 600km across France, from Bordeaux to Beziers, taking in the sights, sounds and landscapes of the French countryside.
Why are they doing this? To raise crucial funds needed to support sport across Milton Keynes and to further develop their beloved rugby club, ensuring the many benefits of rugby can be realised across all age groups and sexes.
After raising a fantastic £50,000 last time round, this year the team are looking to beat that by raising £75,000, a landmark figure for the club and a target that all participants are tasked with achieving together. Most importantly, the team are trying to get more youngsters off of their sofas and out, onto the rugby pitch learning new skills in sports, socialisation and community spirit – a noble task indeed.
Martyn Nixon, club Chairman says: “We’re an ambitious club with bright opportunities ahead of us and this is shown in our fundraising efforts.
“We’re keen to attract new supporters as well as sportsman from around our local community to get involved and expand our reach throughout Milton Keynes, continuing to offer great sport facilities to all ages, abilities and sexes.”
