Ned Flanders-themed band were Okilly Dokilly at The Craufurd Arms

Two fans of upcoming metal band Okilly Dokilly have hailed their recent gig at The Craufurd Arms as one of the best of their lives, writes Amiee Dairion-Edwards.

Okilly Dokilly are a metalcore band from Phoenix, Arizona, that plays “Nedal” music which is a subgenre of metal music, themed around the animated character Ned Flanders from The Simpsons.

All their songs include quotes from Flanders and all five band members – Head Ned, Shred Ned, Zed Ned, Dread Ned and Bed Ned – dress up like Flanders and act like him on stage.

The band have been around since 2015 and fans Harry McMullan, 19, and Maddison Taz Slade, 21, revealed that the gig hosted by The Craufurd Arms was a dazzling diddly do.

Harry said: “This was easily one of the best performances I’ve seen. For the size of the crowd it was really energetic.”

Maddison said: “I loved it, it was one of the best performances I’ve seen in my life.”

The song White Wine Spritzer, in particular, went down a storm with the crowd at the finale of their set.

Harry said: “The energy of the crowd was insane and that is one of my favourite songs of theirs.”

Maddison said: “The crowd was so hyped, and it was a brilliant atmosphere to end on.”

Maddison has been a fan of the band since the very beginning, while Harry has followed them for the last four months.

Harry, explaining his love for the band, said: “It’s because they are unique in a way you wouldn’t expect.”

Maddison said: “It’s because it’s something different to the metal scene.”

A new and upcoming instrumental band, The Grey, opened for Okilly Dokilly on the night. The duo were impressed with them too.

Harry said: “They were easily the best instrumental band that I’ve heard.”

Maddison said: “It was a bit strange as they didn’t have a vocalist but it was good and I liked how they sounded.”
