Local Riverford franchisees Vanessa and Russell Cook love September as their veg boxes are packed with autumnal goodness including kales, chard, fennel, leeks, carrots, cauliflower and more. Why not give them a try?
We both love September – for us it heralds the season of autumn plenty.
We’ll move from summer to autumn with the last of the sweetcorn – I often use it in a sweetcorn chowder with a loaf of fresh bread for a filling and tasty lunch (it’s delicious with a sourdough or rye loaf made for Riverford by the Authentic Bread Company).
It’s not called the season of autumn plenty for nothing. Our veg boxes will be packed with carrots, cauliflowers (including the amazing Romanesco), kales of all kinds, chard, fennel, leeks, onions (try the recipe for French Onion Soup on our website, pictured right, it’s amazing when the weather really turns cold!), parsnips and main crop potatoes – think Pink Fir Apple, Cosmos and Desiree.
Then as we move through October and into November – pumpkins and squashes (plenty to choose from with butternuts, Crown Prince, Kabotcha and Spaghetti, squashes).
There’s also likely to be some radicchio as well as watercress too. Riverford veg boxes are a fantastic way to eat your way through the seasons and there’s sure to be a veg box that suits the way your family like to cook and eat.
We have seasonal organic veg boxes, quick organic veg boxes (where nothing in the box takes more than 30 minutes to prepare and cook), potato free veg boxes, and mixed boxes of fruit and veg – all complemented by our range of meat, dairy, store cupboard essential and drinks – all organic – naturally.
To help you get the best from a Riverford veg box, we have hundreds of recipes on our website and we even bring you one of our fabulous companion cookbooks free with your third delivery for some added veggie inspiration.
