McKay promises hard graft from new Lightning team

New Milton Keynes Lightning head coach Doug McKay and his new-look team face a baptism of fire in the opening weekend of the 2018-19 Elite League season with a doubleheader against five-time champions Sheffield Steelers on September 8 and 9.

Vastly experienced Canadian coach McKay has replaced Pete Russell in the Lightning hot-seat after a disappointing debut season in the Elite League that saw the men from MK finish second from bottom.

But there is renewed optimism around the Planet Ice MK Arena as McKay has signed a host of quality players – including former Tampa Bay and Carolina Hurricanes NHL winger Tim Wallace – in a bid to revive their fortunes.

McKay said: “I want to put a competitive team on the ice and I want the fans to know that each player will
work hard every single night.”

Lightning travel to Sheffield for their Elite League opener on Saturday September 8 before hosting the Steelers in MK at 5.30pm on Sunday 9.
