Cool Events Column: Sausages and sailing this summer

Ex BBC entertainment writer Sarah Bygrave gives us plenty of ideas for August events, whether you’re into food & drink or want to experience nature in MK by land or sea…

With summer now in full swing, we should take every chance to get out and enjoy the food, drinks and fantastic events on offer. Here are my top picks for you to enjoy in August…

If you like to celebrate all things local, then I have the perfect event for you. Wharf Distillery are hosting a Summer Fiesta of locally produced gin, cider, beer and food on the 18th August.

Held at the York House Centre in Stony Stratford, there will be local beers from The Concrete Cow Brewery, delicious street food and it’s free to get in. Bonus! For more information, find the event on Facebook.

For something different, why not have a go at exploring MK with a twist.

During the afternoon of the 17th of August, video artist Sapphire Goss is leading her free workshop, Flora and Film, which takes a group walking for 2.5 miles capturing nature on smartphones.

After editing, the group’s films are showcased at Milton Keynes Gallery in the evening for everyone to enjoy. Register for this unique experience on the Eventbrite website.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to tick something off your bucket list, then this may be just the thing for you. Willen Lake is hosting Sailing Taster Sessions on the 25th of August throughout the day for children and adults.

The free 90 minute sessions are run by qualified instructors and are a great excuse to get out on the water if you haven’t before.

Why not give it a go? You may find your hidden talent. Visit for more information.

MK11 always puts on a good show and this Bank Holiday is no exception. Its Sausage and Cider Festival promises live music, free entry, a huge selection of ciders and of course a big, banging range of bangers!

Open all weekend from the 25th – 27th of August, there is plenty of opportunity to head down to this tasty event!
