Cool Events Column: Insect invasion at International Fest

Ex BBC entertainment writer Sarah Bygrave wants you to get out and about to visit the awesome events happening in MK this month, such as the MK Feast and MKIF..

After what has felt like the coldest spring in a very long time, summer is finally here!

What better way to celebrate the hazy days and lighter evenings than getting out and about in Milton Keynes and attending some awesome events. Here are my top picks for July.

MK Feast returns on the 8th with street food and live music at Bradwell Abbey. A beer bar will be run by MK Biergarten and entry for the day is free.

Bring a few mates down and try some new foods from around the world, you can even bring the dog to join in!

Head down from 11am onwards to indulge.

If you’ve ever wondered what it would look like for enormous insects to take over MK then prepare to witness the invasion.

There is a whole host of weird and wonderful events for the Milton Keynes International Festival between the 20th and 29th but my favourite has to be Sarruga and their giant parading insects.

Operated by cycle power, the parade will walk the streets on the evening of the 20th, with music and special effects to heighten the experience for spectators.

Search online for more information – I can’t wait for this one! Ladies, if you are into your fitness, or if you just want to have a great time exercising with others, then why not take part in a 5km or 10km run held as part of the Women’s Running Race Series.

Taking place at Willen Lake on the 15th, all finishers receive a medal and a selection of free goodies. Search on Facebook for more information about signing up.

If you are curious about vegan cuisine then take the opportunity to find out more and taste some delicious delights at MK’s 100% vegan festival held at the Trinity Centre at Fishermead on the 28th.

Opening at 11am there will be music, information, campaigning groups and of course vegan food for all to enjoy.

If you are running or hosting a local event and want to get in touch with Sarah, you can tweet her on @sarah_ celebrate.
