Cool Events Column: Enjoy a Killah summer

Ex BBC entertainment writer Sarah Bygrave wants you to try something new this summer by watching rap royalty, attending the Soap Box Derby, a sausage dog day and more…

As we welcome the summer months to MK the events calendar is filling up fast!

Forget your bog standard beer garden, it’s time to get out and try something new this summer! Here are my picks for June…

Saturday the 9th will see MK11 host an intimate performance from rap royalty, Ghostface Killah.

A member of the legendary Wu Tang Clan, his live performances are renowned for being extremely powerful. Described as ‘sharp unpredictable symbolism’, this show is not to be missed.

Tickets are available from seetickets.com, over 18s only.

Ever watched the Red Bull Soap Box race on TV?

Well, get ready to witness some extremely creative engineering as MK hosts its very own Soap Box Derby on the 16th June.

The three races, open to juniors and adults, will be held on Midsummer Boulevard and are in aid of Willen Hospice.

Search for the event on Facebook for information about entering, volunteering or attending the race.

If you, like me, are a dog lover, then Kents Hill Pavilion has just the thing for you. DachshundTown is the event celebrating all things sausage dog!

During the jam-packed day there is loads on offer including show classes, activities, trick performances, splash pools and even a Dachshund beauty pageant.

Tickets for the event on Saturday the 9th are available from chihuahuatownevents.co.uk, where there is also information on other events coming up.

Finally, Willen Lake hosts the 17th Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival on the 23rd of June from 10am.

The festival is open to anyone as no experience is required. All you need is a group of friends and buckets of enthusiasm!

It’s a great day out for participants but also for spectators as there is food and musical entertainment along the banks for everyone to enjoy.

Visit dragonboatfestivals.co.uk for more information and I’ll see you there!
