FA and SSE girls football initiative comes to Milton Keynes

The Football Association and SSE have launched an initiative designed to inspire girls aged between 5-11 to be involved in football.

SSE Wildcats Girls’ Football Centres provide girls with regular opportunities to play football and take part in organised sessions in a fun and engaging environment.

The sessions take place on a weekly basis, either after school or at weekends, subject to each local organiser.

They provide a safe environment for girls to have fun engaging with football, make new friends, develop fundamental skills, try a variety of sessions and create foundations for a lifelong love of sport.

200 centres were established across England in 2017 and a further 800 are in place for 2018 including 7 in Milton Keynes. Over 5300 girls have taken part in the programme so far and 99% stated that they enjoyed the experience, saying that it was a positive, fun and friendly environment.

North West MK SSE Wildcats Centre is operated by FC Castlethorpe Youth. Centre Head Coach, David Pears said, “FC Castlethorpe Youth are excited to be involved. This is a fantastic initiative that we hope will inspire girls aged between 5-11 to be involved in football.

“The aim is to provide a safe and fun environment where girls can play together and experience the great game of football. No previous football experience is required and if girls want to continue playing at the end of the programme we can signpost them to a local FA Chartered club that will take them on the next steps of their football journey.”
