Turkish food is renowned as being among the best in the world – an exotic blend of several cuisines including Mediterranean and Central Asian. The new Pasha Med Turkish Bar & Grill has been earning rave reviews in Bletchley so Celebrate:MK editor Jon Boyle went along to try it out. He found the restaurant deliciously authentic…
Turkey is home to two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, but it is the country’s food that is truly wondrous.
It’s an exotic fusion of Central Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Balkan cuisines, with most dishes providing a fabulous barbecue opportunity.
So when news reached us at Celebrate:MK that a new Turkish restaurant in Bletchley was earning rave reviews, we leapt at the chance to go and try it out.
And wow, we’re sure glad we did. Short of moving Pasha Med Turkish Bar and Grill from its Buckingham Road base to Istanbul, it’s hard to see how our experience could have been any more authentic.
The staff are Turkish, the food is cooked in front of you on an open chargrill in the centre of the restaurant, the decor is contemporary Western Asian and even the beer is Turkish.
The food at Pasha has a very pure, healthy quality, and is made freshly on site by experienced Turkish chefs. The variety and simplicity of the dishes – coupled with the high quality of the ingredients and cooking – ensured that our meal was one to remember.
We opted for the Hot Meze Platter as a starter on the advice of the very friendly and knowledgeable general manager Tahir Ozkan, who regularly checked on us and all of his diners throughout.
The delicious platter serves two people and is a selection of the chef’s favourite starters including Halloumi, Falafel, Sucuk (spicy chargrilled sausage), Pasha Hamsi (whitebait cooked with butter, garlic and white wine), Kalamar (fresh deep fried squid), Kuzu Chop Shish (diced chargrilled lamb on skewers with cumin and oregano) and more.
Elli and I then shared two main courses – Mixed Shish (marinated cubes of lamb and chicken chargrilled on skewers, served with salad and rice) and Ali Nazik Lamb, which comes with a special aubergine sauce, buttered peppers and rice.
The portions were very generous and both dishes were incredible, packed full of flavour and succulence. We rounded off our evening with a dessert of rice pudding and Baklava, which was perfectly sweet and crispy having been freshly made.
Our whole Turkish experience was deliciously authentic, and I now have a new favourite beer in Efes Draft.
Elli said at the end: “We are definitely coming back.” It was as if she had read my mind.
