Celebrate:MK’s resident fashion guru SoCal Val explains why she’s ditched the flowing dresses and skirts in favour of relaxed printed trousers for July – and why you must buy this supermarket blazer.
Summer is here! Time to shed those layers and plan some fun in the sun.
Your wardrobe now should be chock-full of lightweight fabrics, big floppy hats and sandals you can jump for joy in.
Stores are stocked with the usual warm weather staples (maxi dresses, shorts etc) but there is one summer trend I am delighted to showcase here: the printed trouser.
Now if I’m honest I am NOT a ‘pants person’. It takes a real showstopper for me to consider this two-legged option.
Luckily my favourite high street store, River Island, presented me with this perfect pair.
Whenever you wear patterns or prints it is important to choose one that reflects your personal taste.
What I loved about this tropical motif was that it was colourful without being too ‘loud’.
But the real brilliance of this recommended trouser style is in the elasticated waistband. No zippers or buttons to fiddle with!
They feel relaxed and effortless – similar to a track pant in feel, but not sloppy in look.
I chose to anchor the whimsical print of these statement trousers by pairing them with a basic white blouse and blazer and wedges.
Flats would, in my opinion, ruin the look. You need a teeny bit of height to elongate the leg.
To finalise the ensemble I wore chunky gold jewellery and oversized sunnies for added glamour… which you can never have too much of!
I always try to give readers alternate ways to wear any piece I’m touting, but can I be blunt?
I am a firm believer in this white blazer. It is by far my most beloved summer purchase. It is something I really believe you should invest in.
Then again ‘invest’ is a strong word. I found this one on sale at Tesco from F&F Clothing – no reason to break the bank here. The point is finding one that suits your frame.
Once you give it a whirl you’ll be amazed at how many times you grab for it this season.
It matches literally everything, highlights your new tan (even the one you may get in a bottle) and adds instant polish to otherwise casual looks.
I hope you’ve found some style inspiration today.
