The MKFM column, by Darren Dorrington.
Over the last five years, MKFM has attended hundreds of events and has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for local good causes.
There are two events taking place during the summer that we are really looking forward to.
We have been mentioning these on the radio as now is the time to sign up.
MKFM is proud to be supporting The Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival on Sunday 25th June, 2017, organised by Gable Events in aid of Age UK Milton Keynes.
The annual festival is a highlight of the summer in Milton Keynes and has been running for 15 years at Willen Lake.
Dragon boat racing is an ancient Chinese tradition and the fastest-growing water activity in Britain today – as well as the most fun!
Up to 16 people paddle each boat with a drummer at the front beating time and a helm at the tail steering a straight course.
No previous experience is required, just plenty of team spirit!
Fancy getting a team together? All the details are on our website http://www.mkfm.com
Another one of our annual highlights is the Willen Hospice Midnight Moo.
This is the ladies-only midnight walk that takes place across 10 miles of Redways to raise funds to support the end-of-life care provided by Willen Hospice.
This year’s Moo takes place on Saturday 15th July, once again starting and finishing at intu Milton Keynes.
Every year the MK Midnight Moo has a different theme, and to celebrate MK50 the theme for 2017 is gold!
There will be lots of surprises for participants, including golden tickets and special offers for 50-year-olds.
Since launching in 2009, the fundraising walk has raised over £900,000 to support Hospice care in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas.
The team at Willen hope this will be the year that the total fundraising for Midnight Moo since launch hits over £1million.
Even if you come on your own, you will make loads of friends and it will be very special this year.
